Body Title:
Sustainability

With the world “going green”, greater emphasis has been put on foodservice operations to offer products that are grown and produced with care of the people, product and the planet. Taking care of our earth is becoming as important to our customers as taking care of their bodies. As a family owned business for 4 generations and harvesters of our own land, we understand the true meaning of sustainability and its importance.

Locally Grown

"Buy Local" is an important trend that is not going away. With increasing interest our customers want to source product as close to home as possible. Furmano’s products are made in Northumberland, PA with many of the raw ingredients being grown right in our back yard. We offer peak of the season flavor year round and are centrally located to supply the East Coast with "locally grown" products in shelf-stable packaging.

Ethnic Cuisines

With almost worldwide availability, the ability to try new and different flavor combinations from around the world has led to an unrelenting customer base when it comes to exciting new menu items. Beans are a strong comfort food in cultures around the world. Furmano’s offers a full line of canned beans to grab these customers.

Hand Held Meals

As life speeds up, foodservice operators need to be creative in developing new ways to pass their food to the customers. One strategy is to create single serving meals. Hand held items that offer nutrition and convenience, like wraps and sandwiches that can be taken on the go, will be in high demand.

Furmano’s can help you cost effectively fill these demands—with the beans to fill a burrito, the chick peas to make falafel or the tomatoes to dress a wrap. Our Tomato Flatbread recipe will show your customers an extra level of skill and flair. Nothing says commitment to the customer like fresh baked bread.

Functional Foods

Foods that offer health benefits other than nutrition are gaining increased marketability. Foods like beans and tomatoes (our specialties here at Furmano’s) offer high fiber, lycopene, and beneficial vitamins. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) continues to identify health claims they can authorize.
